The threat and impact of Hurricane Joaquin on the east coast has lessened, as the National Weather Service is forecasting the storm to move east and away from the coast.

However, there is still heavy rain, high winds, and flooding expected across parts of the mid-Atlantic region this weekend regardless of Joaquin’s path.

This has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Coastal Flood Warning for Philadelphia, South Jersey and Northern Delaware through Sunday.

The rain which has already fallen plus high winds causes concern for fallen trees, which can bring down power lines, cause power outages and add risk for shock and electrocution.

Joaquin has made emergency preparedness front of mind. Good timing as September wrapped up National Preparedness Month which was created to encourage residents to prepare for emergencies and disasters, whether they be on a personal level or large scale.

Having your family, your home or business prepared year round is of utmost importance. Being ready and staying informed is key.
