The event provided games, food, music and a mini parade for residents and police officers to help strengthen the relationship between police and the community they serve. Other neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia held National Night Out events as well.

Mayor Kenney and Police Commissioner Richard Ross joined the Holmesburg neighborhood residents at National Night Out, an event that promotes public safety and community engagement, on August 2.

“We need to continue to the dialogue, see each other and meet each other and see that they are real people and that citizens are real people,” Mayor Kenney said. “Policing is about interaction with the community. It’s about respect. It’s about talking to people the right way. It’s about responding to officers the right way and I think we can get there.”

Children and adults alike were excited to attend, and were happy to see city officials and police in their neighborhood for such a positive event.
