City Hall Courtyard to Combine Culture in the Courtyard performances and the Parks on Tap Traveling Beer Garden

Philadelphia – City Hall’s courtyard will be transformed into a festive beer garden featuring two special evening Culture in the Courtyard performances on Thursday, August 18 and Tuesday, September 20, 4-9PM. These evenings will bring together the Culture in the Courtyard City Hall performance series, an initiative launched by the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy’s and the Parks on Tap traveling beer garden, a partnership between Philadelphia Parks & Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy and Avram Hornik of FCM Hospitality.

The events are free admission to the general public and will feature live performances by Philadelphia artists, and food and drinks will be available for purchase from food trucks and a mobile craft beer concession truck with local drafts. Ample seating will be provided for Philadelphians and visitors to enjoy the festivities.

“We want Philadelphians to come and enjoy themselves at City Hall in a safe and welcoming environment during these two special evenings in August and September,” said Mayor Jim Kenney. “We hope they will be able to relax, unwind after work, and soak in the performances by talented Philadelphia artists and enjoy a taste of the city.”

Culture in the Courtyard performances will be held from 5:30-6:30PM on both evenings. PHL Live Center Stage winners JAH People will perform reggae classics and “reggae-fied” funk, rock, and soul standards for their Culture in the Courtyard performance on August 18. Brotherly Love, comprised of selected members of the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus, will perform pop music selections and songs of pride and empowerment for their showcase on September 20.

Culture in the Courtyard

Culture in the Courtyard is a new outdoor performances series produced by the Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy that will serve as a showcase of Philadelphia arts organizations and performers, from youth groups to professional ensembles. The performances, which will range from dance to theatre to music to circus arts, will be held in the City Hall Courtyard on Wednesdays at noon and will be free to the public to enjoy. Parks on Tap

Parks on Tap is a partnership between Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, Fairmount Park Conservancy and Avram Hornik of FCM Hospitality. This never-been-done-before program is bringing a mobile beer garden from park to park for 14 weeks. During the 2016 season, the beer garden will spend several days in one park location, highlighting and enhancing the offerings that Philadelphia city parks provide, before moving to the next location. It aims for a simple aesthetic: well-kept outdoor spaces where friends and families can meet up to enjoy food, drinks and fun surrounded by nature.
